The new national technology transfer center ANAXAM (Analytics with Neutrons and X-Rays for Advanced Manufacturing), founded in December 2019 in Canton Aargau, is part of the national Advanced Manufacturing Technology Transfer Centers (AM-TTC) initiative. It has now settled at Switzerland Innovation Park Innovaare.

ANAXAM offers services to SMEs as well as to industrial companies and large corporations. The analytical methods are unique in that they are carried out in the large-scale research facilities of the Paul Scherrer Institute PSI in Villigen, Switzerland, allowing measurements and analyses to go far beyond common laboratory competencies. The ANAXAM team has now moved into Park Innovaare’s deliveryLAB premises in order to take advantage of the synergies established here with industry.

ANAXAM offers analytical services to support advanced manufacturing, both in improving existing products and manufacturing processes. The analytical services can be used to investigate raw materials, metallic materials, alloys, powder materials, ceramic materials, construction materials, coating materials and energy materials, composites and additive manufactured components. Neutron and X-ray radiation in the fields of imaging, diffraction and spectroscopy can be used to study materials for industrial problems at the nano level. As these analyses cannot be carried out in normal laboratories, these services offer industrial companies entirely new possibilities, allowing them to tailor and optimize materials for applications, thus saving time and money. Material analysis methods offered by ANAXAM were originally developed for basic research and range from consulting to experiment performance enhancement, to data analysis and result interpretation.

A win-win solution for Switzerland Innovation Park Innovaare and ANAXAM

ANAXAM has now settled at Park Innovaare, creating a strong trio also with Switzerland Innovation Park and research partner the Paul Scherrer Institute PSI, thus solidfying technology transfer between industry and research. The CEO of Park Innovaare, Benno Rechsteiner, is delighted with the new tenant in Park Innovaare: "With ANAXAM we have a strong partner at our Innovation Park, which offers interesting services for both Swiss SMEs and foreign companies. ANAXAM supports our mission to promote innovation in Switzerland by facilitating and accelerating the transfer of technology between industry and science.” Christian Grünzweig, CEO ofANAXAM, emphasizes the importance of this step: "I am very much looking forward to a dynamic future at Park Innovaare. Here we can offer our services in the field of applied material analysis to the right industrial companies. We benefit from the networking of Park Innovaare in the industrial landscape, and with ANAXAM, Park Innovaare can offer these companies a top-class and valuable service".

Support from Canton Aargau, universities and research institutes

ANAXAM is part of the digitalization action plan launched by the Swiss Confederation and the ETH Board. Standing behind ANAXAM is a supporting association consisting of Canton Aargau, the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) and the Swiss Nanoscience Institute (SNI). The services provided by ANAXAM are intended to make Swiss SMEs more competitive. In addition, jobs are to be created and maintained in Switzerland.
